The most common cause of peptic ulcer is Helicobacter pylori infection.
Other causes of peptic ulcer are increase acid and pepsin enzyme produced by stomach, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen sodium, cigarette smoking, beverages and foods that contain caffeine, alcohol consumption and emotional stress. But in Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome, peptic ulcer can be seen without infection of Helicobacter pylori.
